Moving Salt

Created as a ritual in honor of the beginning of the new year, "Moving Salt" was performed for one hour midnight of December 31st, 2001. The performance was a recognition of the power of the moon to effect the ocean tides, moving water, salt, sand, and eventually over time earth. Through rhythmic body motions, the artist moved 10 pounds of salt from floor to buckets and back again. The lights from the buckets illuminated the salt chrystals, capturing the trails and waves of motion. The floor is covered in silver metalic sheeting, causeing a rhythmic rush of sound as the salt moved against the floor.
