Delilah Complex
Bug Theatre, 2001
Delilah Complex is a performance based on the psychological condition given to men who are unable to trust women for the fear that they will betray them. The name of the psychological complex comes from the biblical story of Samson and Delilah. The actions of Delilah became a well known metaphor for womanly temptations lead to the betrayal and demise of men. What is not so commonly known is the social context in which Delilah lived and the desperate conditions under which she made her decision to betray Samson. The performance Delilah Complex retells the story from Delilah's point of view. While the artist tells the story, she cuts her hair and bathes her body with cows blood as an act of atonement.
